The New Mexico Contemporary Ensemble is excited to present our second annual James Tenney Memorial Symposium!
This year we were joined by two composers, Joshua Carro and Kimberly Osberg, from June 21st-29th, 2018 for a week of rehearsals, performances, discussions, collaboration and to experience the beauty and cultural heritage of New Mexico.

Joshua CArro
joshua michael carro (b. 1982 - ) is a versatile multimedia artist based in Los Angeles, CA. Since the completion of his MFA in 2013 carro has gone on to develop new methods of composing for instruments of any kind with the extension of electro-acoustic and visual elements that have contributed to the evolution of sound, musical composition, and design. Aside from his research in music technology and social artistic behavior, carro’s solo project [[[personablack]]] has been the main focus of his sound and artistic research. [[[personablack]]] is a solo electro-acoustic drumming project that cross-pollinates with many musical and artistic genres from antiquity to modern experimental noise and sound design. Integrating an extended use of Abelton Live, Max for Live, and Isotonik Studios software, this project has a promise and potential to become the next wave of musical and artistic evolution. carro has performed in countless spaces and recordings across the U.S., Canada, and Europe with sound work performances and commissions by The Futurist Intoners in The Cleveland Museum of Art, Singapore Art Science Center, Laurie Anderson, Rat Bastard, Ehnahre, Blood Oath, UC Berkeley Cellist Ensemble, Wild Rumpus, What’s Next? Ensemble, Now Hear Ensemble, Pianist Vicki Ray, and Harpist Susan Allen.

Kimberly Osberg
Kimberly Osberg is an emerging composer from Eau Claire, Wisconsin who recently finished her M.M. degree from the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana where she studied under Dr. David Dzubay, Dr. Aaron Travers, Dr. Claude Baker, Dr. Don Freund, Dr. Jeffrey Hass, and Dr. John Gibson. Since arriving in Bloomington in the fall of 2014, Kimberly has premiered an opera, collaborative works for film, theatre, and dance, countless chamber pieces, and new works for high school ensembles. She has also enjoyed an active career in electroacoustic music, spending the summer of 2015 studying at IRCAM – the premiere center for electroacoustic music in Paris, France. She also undertook ambitious projects for Indiana University Department of Theatre, Dance, and Drama's productions of Macbeth (Spring 2016) and Prospect Hill (Spring 2017, premiere) which feature completely original electroacoustic music and sound design. Her most recent premiere, Trashterpieces, featured electronically-processed trash instruments and stage combat. In addition to her studies, she has also attended several premiere music festivals – most recently attending the Aspen Summer Music Festival as a composition fellow. She is currently serving as director for the Libera Composers Association consortium, for which she will facilitate the premieres of seven new works for high school band and for high school choir across the country in conjunction with lectures, lessons, and clinics. www.kimberlyosberg.com |
